As we said when we launched New_ Public less than two years ago, “it starts through fires crackling and embers floating.” Now is a tremendous time of opportunity and experimentation in creating new social products and spaces as fuel for this fire. 🔥

Publicly-spirited community stewards, leaders, moderators and admins are building thriving communities within existing platforms. Meanwhile, builders, developers, designers, funders, entrepreneurs, researchers, and engineers are all busy creating hundreds of new social spaces: large, small, and everything in between. 🌟 💕

It’s been a transformative year, and we know we’re just getting started:

We facilitated better, healthier public self-awareness and exchange through co-creating prototypes of conversational tools with our public media partners. We’re improving ideas for vibrant digital stewardship in our first co-design partnership. We collected more than 200 examples of prosocial innovation in digital platforms and products. And we learned and co-designed alongside five digital community stewards of varying identities, geographies, ages, experiences, and platforms leveraging, their lived wisdom to guide and shape our work.

We are so grateful and hopeful. We see ourselves as part of a movement of builders and community stewards who are transforming the social internet for our public wellbeing, and appreciate your partnership on the journey.

And as the year comes to a close and we look to 2024, we are celebrating the official recognition of our independent nonprofit status. We’re moving on, with great thanks, from our fiscal sponsor and parent organization, the National Conference on Citizenship. We’re striking out on our own and for the first time, we’re asking you, our friends, to show support for our work in building the digital public spaces of the future. ❤️
